The Cooperative “Etnos” was born in 2005; it is a social “type B” cooperative that offers plenty of services; it started working on the territory of Caltanissetta, by opening this fair-trade shop “Equamente” and then, it devoted itself to other services, such as the transportation of disable people, in association with the municipality of Caltanissetta, the welcoming of unaccompanied foreign minors, in two homeless shelters in Montedoro and Caltanissetta, the welcoming of women victims of abuse or in need, in Serradifalco; a service that takes care about neurodegenerative diseases, like the Alzheimer with the “Visir” project; a parallel service of transportation of disable and elderly people, “Tris”; lastly, the food service, with the restaurant “Un posto tranquillo” created when the solidarity meets the catering; it is a project that involves disable people and women victims of abuse who work in this restaurant that is placed in Serradifalco.

Talking of FAIRSUD project, we want to engage and bring to our territory as many people as possible, so that they can personally see its intrinsic richness, disregarding its isolated position; it is not, in fact, a coastline city, so, it is necessary to come expressly here to observe our patrimony of mines , cheese factories, particular productions of lavender, of a biological bitter, which is the only one in Italy.

Our decision to join such a great project like FAIRSUD origins from our will to bring a wide range of people to our territory, which is affected by its central position; it is, in fact, more isolated than other cities such as Palermo, Catania, Siracusa that are coastline provinces.

We want to show our territory’s richness at a national level and even more, bringing tourists to the hinterland of Caltanissetta, allowing them to visit our factories in order to see how lavender, bitter and typical cheese are produced and, furthermore, we want them tounderstand the concept of “welcoming” that we have been developing in ten years of “Etnos.”
